Buying a home that needs a lot of work doing to it can be a daunting process. We are currently mid house renovations and are learning as we go along. If I had to give opinions on some of the best places to start with home improvements first or to add value then these would be where I would suggest starting.
Create more living space – if you are looking to make some home improvements over the summer or to update your living areas to add value then creating extra space is always a winner. You could go all-out and add an extension to your property if you have the time and budget available. This would be a plus point no matter if you are building your forever home to settle in and raise your family, or if you are looking to do a place up to sell on down the line. If you don’t have much space to extend, you could always think about adding on an annex, outbuilding or shed to give extra versatility. New bathrooms – adding a bathroom is a great way to add value to your home. You could tag an en-suite on to the master bedroom or open up a space downstairs that could make the perfect guest bathroom. If you don’t want to go all out and add a new bathroom, renovating your old bathroom with a fresh new design is a great way to spruce things up. The design of your bathroom depends on whether you think you will want to stay in your home for a long time or re-sell in the near future. If re-selling is your main priority then I would always look at modern, fresh and minimalist designs. This will leave new buyers with a lovely space that they can invision making into whatever they want.
If you are planning on creating your dream ‘forever home’ then Pinterest is your best friend. There are so many ideas there for bold and daring bathrooms that will really add character to your house. Consider using bathroom tiles to add colour and texture to your space. There are some wonderful options available and I’m already making a design board for my current favourites!
New kitchens – a new kitchen can totally transform a house. Take an old and dull design and turn it into the heart of any home! You can find some great bargains on bathroom furniture and accessories in the January and Black Friday sales so it is always worth waiting until these times if you want to stick to your budget. I am absolutely in love with some of the cupboards and furniture at Ikea at the moment but you can find so many amazing places online to start getting quotes and inspiration.
