Festive Cocktails from Freixenet

Though the wintery months are well and truly upon us and the sun disappears behind the hills in the blink of an eye, it doesn’t mean that cocktail season is over. In fact, seasonal ingredients provide the perfect opportunity to experiment with your serves and stir up a storm.

With England currently in lockdown, traditional cocktail recipes for six or eight people might not fit the bill, so we’ve spoken to expert producers of sparkling wine, Freixenet, to put together some delicious seasonal cocktails for your household. Read on for some mixology mastery!

Festive Freixenet Fig and Thyme Cocktail

The perfect accompaniment to a festive figgy pudding, this sweet number is sure to delight the tastebuds. Recipe makes two glasses:
  • Freixenet Italian Sparkling Rosé

  • 30ml vodka

  • 3 figs

  • ½ lemon

  • Honey syrup

  • Thyme sprigs

  • Ice

Method:

  • Add 2 figs, the juice of half a lemon, 30ml vodka, ice and a dash of honey syrup into a cocktail shaker and gently muddle

  • Strain into two glasses and top with Freixenet Italian Sparkling Rose

  • Garnish with the remaining fig and a sprig of thyme

Cava Pear Fizz Sparkle

This serve combines elegant, full-bodied flavours with just a hint of summer tones to bring some light to the darker evenings. Recipe makes three glasses:

  • 250ml Apple juice

  • 1/2 a Pear, sliced thinly

  • 40ml orange-flavoured liqueur

  • 1/2 a bottle of Freixenet Cordon Negro

Method: 

  • Mix the apple juice and liqueur well

  • Pour into a tumbler with a slice of pear, and top with Freixenet Cordon Negro

  • Add your choice of garnish, whether a festive star anise or a slice of orange for a fruitier finish

Mulled Rosé

They don’t come much more festive than this! An unorthodox, fruitier twist on a classic Christmas tipple, this cocktail combines fragrant spices and bold flavours with classic Rosé, to make the ultimate winter warmer. Recipe makes three to four glasses:

  • 1 Bottle of Freixenet Cordon Rosado

  • 1 Star anise

  • 1 Thumb of ginger, peeled

  • 1 Cinnamon stick

  • 1 Clove

  • 1 Handful of allspice berries

  • Pink grapefruit, sliced

Method:

  • Pour the Freixenet Cordon Rosado into a deep saucepan, along with the star anise, clove, ginger, cinnamon and allspice berries

  • Place the pan on a medium heat and simmer for 6-7 minutes

  • Strain into a jug, line your heatproof glasses/mugs with a couple of slices of pink grapefruit and serve hot
