YO! Sushi New Trends

Bringing the taste of TokYO! to its kaiten belts nationwide from 8th March, YO! Sushi introduces two new food-trends to its menu offering their customers an authentic Tokyo street-food experience.

Feeling crepe? Why not try okonomiyaki. Just when you thought you had seen it all in the world of food, YO! Sushi introduces a quintessential Tokyo street food, that makes you ask “what the heck is that?”

Okonomiyaki is as popular in Japan as pizza. However, rather than being made of dough, the base is made from batter and CABBAGE served with a variety of toppings. This March, it’s TokYO! as okonomiyaki hits the kaiten belt for the first time – YO! Sushi’s version of this pancake/pizza hybrid is served with mayonnaise, katsu sauce, spring onion, aonori, beni shoga & katsuoboshi (that’s seaweed, ginger pickle and dried tuna flakes, to you and me!)

Okonomiyaki is a delicious and filling treat that compliments any of the 100+ dishes that are now available at YO! Sushi.

Turning left over rice into a meal by using a hot broth or even green tea has been a tradition in Japan for the past 500 years. New to its menu in March, YO! Sushi is introducing this very tradition.

Say hello to Chazuke, a Japanese rice dish prepared with hot broth. Made with a combination of Bonito (tuna) and Konbu (seaweed), this hot broth creates an ‘umami’ flavour, translated to ‘delicious essence’, yet, another tradition discovered in Tokyo. Going beyond the usual flavourings, umami saturates your taste buds giving you a ‘fifth taste’. Chazuke is served with nori, sesame paste, salmon & sea bass, oba leaf, yuzu koshu furikake seasoning & umami dashi.

Hot on the food scene in Tokyo, okonomiyaki is a popular street food consisting of batter and cabbage served with a variety of toppings. Okonomiyaki translated into English means “As-you-like-it Pancake”. Full of flavour, YO! Sushi’s Okonomiyaki is topped with mayo, katsu sauce, spring onion, aonori, beni shoga & katsuoboshi.

A traditional Japanese rice dish made with green tea, Chazuke has been served in Tokyo for centuries. It is the simplest of pleasures and is now available for the first time at YO! Sushi where it is served with nori, sesame paste, salmon & sea bass, oba leaf, yuzu koshu furikake seasoning & umami dashi.

Clam Miso Soup

This rich tasting soup is found in many restaurants in Tokyo and takes miso soup to a whole new level. Clams are added to a premium white shiro miso with an infusion of enoki mushrooms, wakame, spring onion and shichimi.

Buta No Kakuni

A Tokyo classic! Always the first thing our group executive chef orders in a restaurant, try this slow braised pork belly and daikon in a sweet soy sauce with rice.

With over 10 million plates of sushi sold every year, all made fresh before your eyes by our kitchen ninjas each day, YO! Sushi is home to the largest, most authentic sushi menu on the high street. In fact, it has built up such a reputation for trained sushi chefs that it is even launching the UK’s first qualification in sushi making.

Some of the new sushi delicacies include:

There are new rolls on the menu to take you on a sushi journey! Try our Dynamite roll; a delicious spicy salmon is rolled with avocado, mayonnaise, spring onion, crispy shallots and Sriracha. Or mix it up with theIchi-ni-san Roll, a mouthwatering salmon, tuna, & Hokkaido scallops rolled together with cucumber, mayonnaise, caviar and yuzu koshu. As fun as it sounds, the Fish No Chip Roll is a taste sensation! Tempura seabass topped with red onion, coated in spicy wasabi sauce and dressed with tangy yuzu furikake seasoning.

This new menu also includes a great selection of nigiri, sure to please all fish-loving palates. Try the Saba Sushi, a luscious, lightly marinated mackerel with teriyaki glaze and green onion. Or go for a real classic and try the Tako Sushi, poached octopus served on sushi rice – simple and sublime. Also included is a favourite,Ama Ebi Sushi, atlantic sweet shrimp on rice.

If 2015 was the ‘year of kale’, seaweed takes poll position as the number one superfood for 2016. So why not ditch the green leaves and give Japanese salads a go on your next trip to YO! Sushi?

Ramen Noodle Salad

To complement the seaweed salads already on the menu, this ramen noodle salad combines wakame (seaweed) with noodles, sesame sauce, crispy shallots, spring onion, sesame seeds & pickled ginger for a succulent salad treat.

Kimchi Ika Salad

Poached squid is served with pickled vegetables in a kimchi sauce, great for your taste buds and your gut. There is also our brand new Potato Salada. Served in every ‘izakaya’ throughout Japan, this zingy take on potato salad blends potato, pickled carrot, cucumber and onion with mayonnaise and Japanese Karashi mustard.

To satisfy any sweet tooth, YO! have also increased their dessert selection to seven, with two new dishes including a Matcha roll; a premium green tea Swiss roll is filled with fresh cream and azuki beans, served with a juicy strawberry and our Japanese soufflé cheesecake, a soft and moist baked soufflé cheesecake topped with a sweet strawberry.
