‘Tis The Season For Bordeaux!

The Christmas season will soon be upon us with parties, log fires and the hope of snow, so there’s no better  time to try a selection of excellent value wines from Vins de Bordeaux. Whether it’s for a Christmas Day roast,  a get-together with friends or simply snuggling up by the fire with a glass of something delicious, Bordeaux has done the hard work for you by selecting tasty red blends, crisp dry whites and sumptuous sweet wines, for  each festive occasion. We recommend the following wines to make all your Christmas ho-ho-holidays even better!

Dourthe Réserve, 2015, Bordeaux, Majestic £8.99  – Sauvignon Blanc

Try this refreshingly crisp white wine to get the party  started! A fantastic apéritif with notes of apple and passion  fruit – a great alternative to bubbles when wishing to serve  something elegant.

Roc St Vincent, Bordeaux, Sainsbury’s £8  – Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon

This dry white has notes of lemon and citrus. Try with a smoked salmon starter: the fresh acidity of the Sauvignon  cuts through the oiliness of the fish for a match made in  heaven.

Haut-Vignoble, 2015, Bordeaux, Marks and Spencer £7  – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon

Not too heavy, this red blend with bramble flavours and hints  of tobacco makes the perfect partner for turkey. An excellent accompaniment to the traditional Christmas Day roast with  all the trimmings.

Taste the Difference Saint-Émilion, 2013, Sainsbury’s £10 – Cabernet Franc, Merlot

An all rounder! This lovely red is fragrant with aromas of spice  and red currant. A great match with red meats such as a leg of
lamb or rib of beef.

Château Le Coin, 2014, Bordeaux, Laithwaites £10.99 – Sauvignon Gris

A spicy white with flavours of apricot and citrus is perhaps an  unusual, but perfect match for a cheese plate.

Waitrose Sauternes Chateau Suduiraut, 2008, Sauternes, £15.99  – Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc

A vibrant sweet wine, with flavours of orange, marmalade and  coconut makes a refreshing end to a meal. The perfect  accompaniment to mince pies or Christmas pudding!

Mouton Cadet Réserve, 2013, Sauternes, ASDA, £8  – Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc

For something different on your Christmas Day, this sweet wine  brings out the vanilla and raisin flavours of an Italian panettone.
