How to Eat Healthier when you are Short on Time

If you want to make a healthy change then you may feel as though this is easier said than done. If you are short on time during the day then you may be tempted to reach for convenience food, and takeaways may also happen way more often than they should. If you want to do something about this then this guide will help you to make a positive change.

Think Beyond Fresh Produce

It’s recommended that you eat between 5 and 13 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables every day. This is impossible if you are an ordinary mortal working long hours. After all, it’s not just the meal planning you have to take into account, it’s the time spent washing, cutting and cleaning vegetables. If you want to try and improve things for yourself then don’t just focus on fresh produce. Canned produce and even frozen options are all valid here and they are great if you are low on time but still want to make the effort.

Cut up Everything

You probably don’t have time to chop and cut up everything for every meal that you do. This is understandable, so make sure that you chop up things in bulk. If you know that you are having carrots multiple times that week then simply chop up enough to last you. If you can do this, then when you do end up working long hours, you have everything ready for you as soon as you get home. This will make you far less likely to get a takeaway and it also cuts down on a lot of the time spent preparing food. If you want to avoid cutting up vegetables altogether then it’s very easy for you to buy food that has been chopped up already.

Snack Meals

You don’t need to cook if you want to eat healthily. In fact, it’s very easy for you to combine different food that you would normally regard as being a snack, and make yourself a nutritious meal. Baby carrots, celery sticks, cheese and olives can all be combined to create a fantastic meal, especially when you add some Greek yoghurt dressing and some lettuce. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to get the healthy meals you are looking for without having to worry about putting in too much effort with meal planning. Make your Breakfast in Advance

Making a very healthy breakfast is a problem for a lot of people. It’s necessary, but if you do not have the time to prepare it then you can easily do it the night before. Keep in mind that you do not need to create something complex here. You can easily dish up some wholegrain cereal, with some dried fruit. The next day, the only thing you have to do is add the milk. Fruit salad can also be made in advance, and the only thing you have to do here is pull it out of the fridge.
