Here are four of the most essential screenings you should have done as a woman.

    1. Breast Exams

Catching breast cancer early really does make a profound difference in the success of treatment. If there is a history of the disease in your family, mammograms start earlier, but for most women, they aren’t offered until age 50. But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be checking your breasts regularly for any abnormalities and going for a professional breast exam from a much younger age. Self-examinations have saved lives, so check yourself at least once a month. If anything is even the slightest bit unusual, its best to go for private health screening as soon as possible to get to the bottom of it.

    1. Pap Smears

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a type of STD that causes abnormal cells in the cervix and can lead to cervical cancer. When going for a smear, the doctor will scrape some cells from your cervix to test for any abnormalities or HPV. If any abnormalities are found, they can actually be removed before they turn into cancer. There is a vaccine for HPV, but this does not offer full protection and some cervical cancers don’t start with HPV. For sexually active women, this is an opportunity to be tested for other diseases like gonorrhoea and chlamydia, which should be done every year.

    1. Skin Exam

From the age of 18, you should check your skin thoroughly and regularly for anything that new or unusual. There are lots of different types of skin cancer, but again, catching them early is key. New moles or freckles and changes to any that are already there can be the early signs of skin cancer, and you should check your entire body, but it is also recommended to get a professional look it over too.

    1. Bone Density Test

Bone density basically means bone strength. Especially after menopause, women can begin to lose bone mass and develop osteoporosis. This means they are increasingly susceptible to fractures or breakages and can eventually lead to disability. Osteoporosis can be prevented and treated, and older women should have their bone density tested regularly to find out if you have developed the condition before any breakages occur.
