A taste of Catalonia comes to you from Six by Nico from the 25th September to 5th November. The new menu will transport guests across the continent to catch the last of the summer sunshine in the beautiful Spanish region of Catalonia, transporting the culture and vibrant tastes of this historic region, from Barcelona to Girona, and everything in between, straight to diners’ plates.
Art and creativity in the kitchen lie at the heart of the Catalan culture and is therefore an essential element of Six by Nico’s new tasting menu, which not only draws inspiration from the region’s classic dishes and cooking techniques, but also celebrates the region’s most prolific figures, from artists, to architects and fellow chefs. Each dish on the new menu reflects the unique heritage of this captivating destination.
The new six-course offering highlights a range of iconic dishes including an amuse bouche of Patatas Bravas, a first starter celebrating Gaudi of chicken arrollado, hen of the woods, black garlic, hazelnut pesto, bergamot, lovage and mustactel, which moves onto the second starter, named El Bulli in honour of the famous restaurant and chef Ferran Adrià, which is a Pan Con Tomate with heirloom tomato, extra virgin olive oil and smoked salt.
For the fish course, we have Arroz Negro – the classic rice dish typical of the region with black pollock, pickled mussel, black rice cake, saffron emulsion, courgette and shellfish cappuccino and for the main course Pork Barbacoa, featuring the belly and cheek of pork, sobrasada, white bean ragú and red pepper esquitxat. To satisfy your sweet tooth, the menu presents a scrumptious Crema Catalan of burnt vanilla crème, poached prune and honey and fennel seed.
Founder Nico Simeone commented:
“I’m thrilled to present this stunning new Catalonian menu. I have always admired the rich culinary heritage of this region, so it’s been fantastic to bring it to life as part of this latest tasting adventure for our diners. Each dish celebrates Catalan cuisine and the cultural hotspot of this region.”
The menu is priced at £48 per person with the option to enjoy an expertly selected wine and specialist drinks pairing for an additional £35 at each restaurant. As always, there is a vegetarian alternative available for every course, with tasty alternatives including a Paella Blanco with courgette and fino sherry cappuccino and a Saffron tortilla with tetilla cheese, roasted garlic emulsion and calcot onions.
