Banke Kuku

Talented textiles designer Banke Kuku fuses traditional African and Western inspiration to create intricate, unique and luxurious fabrics for interiors and fashion designs. The marriage of cultures comes together to create a sense of modern Africa. Dedication and creativity are woven in to each design.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Banke Kuku moved to the United Kingdom at eight years old where she gained an understanding of Western Culture. The cultural fusion of the African and Western world heavily influences her bold patterns, resulting in statement prints with captivating impact. Viewed as the ‘Queen of Colour’, Banke Kuku’s prints have been described as exquisite pieces of art to decorate both the body and the home.

Banke Kuku has extensive experience in the textiles industry. Since graduating from Central St Martins College and Chelsea College of Art and Design, Banke Kuku Textiles has been turning heads in the design world with loud, vibrant and undeniably playful prints. Her passion and skill have resulted in great success. Banke began knitting when she was just five years old and has always displayed a sense of creativity and determination.

Key inspiration comes from African style along with a love of travel and various cultures. Banke Kuku’s designs are an outlet for her self-expression, as a result of her vast inspirations and experiences. The pieces are therefore intense, quirky and elegant. The brand has created intrepid fabric designs for renowned fashion houses including Duro Olowu, Jewel by Lisa, Virgos Lounge and Lot78, which have been worn by the likes of Michelle Obama, singer Kelis and E! News TV presenter Catt Sadler.

The first Banke Kuku interiors range has been found nestled in Selfridges London and is set to follow in the successful footsteps of her recent fabric designs, which have graced the catwalks of London, Paris and New York.
