Drayton Manor Theme Park near Tamworth, Staffordshire, celebrates the start of its 65th anniversary on 1st April and to mark the occasion, it is giving a gift to anyone celebrating their birthday on that day – free entry into the park worth up to £36 per person!

Anyone born on April Fool’s Day can spend their birthday at the park and to qualify, visitors must show valid ID* to be granted entry. They can then spend the day enjoying the thrills and spills the park and zoo has to offer, with something for all ages to enjoy.

2015 will be a special year for the park. Still family owned and run by the third generation, plans are already well underway for a year of themed events and activities sure to give visitors an extra special day of memories.

The family-run attraction has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a rubbish heap of a site in 1949. The late George Bryan OBE and his wife Vera arrived with the exciting vision of building a family theme park.

Drayton Manor opened in 1950 with just one restaurant, a tea-room, three hand-operated rides, rowing boats, pedal cars and a set of second-hand dodgems.

The theme park is now home to some of the biggest, scariest and wettest white knuckle rides around, including the adrenaline-inducing drop-tower, Apocalypse, Europe’s only stand-up coaster, Shockwave, and the newest offering, the acrobatic aeroplane flight, Air Race. It also boasts Europe’s only Thomas Land™ – which has recently increased in size by 40% following a £2.5 million expansion, as well as a 150-bedroom four star hotel.

The attraction will celebrate its 65th year in style, under the leadership of William Bryan, newly appointed Managing Director.

“This season promises to be a very special one – our 65th anniversary is such a massive landmark and we’re delighted to start our celebrations with free entry for anyone born on 1st April,” he said.

“We pride ourselves on making sure that every season is better than the last and with the recent expansion of Thomas Land we are confident that this will be our best yet.

“For the past six decades, we have provided affordable days out for the whole family – there is nothing more rewarding than seeing people leaving the park with a smile on their face.”

The 2015 season runs until Sunday 1st November, closing with the 65th Anniversary Firework Spectacular over the last weekend. The park will also open its gates for its award-winning Magical Christmas experience on selected dates from Saturday 21st November to Thursday 31st December. Please note: the park will be closed to the general public on Sunday 13th September.
