Bake it away: The Big Bakes to host online baking tutorials amidst social distancing

social distancing

The award-winning team behind The Big Bakes, the UK’s first and only live baking competition, is set to host an array of remote tutorials, to get the nation baking at home, all broadcast from their famous baking tents. The baking team will be sharing three bake-at-home classes each week across their social media channels, covering easy-to-follow recipes that use the day-to-day ingredients and standard kitchen equipment found in the home.

Each video masterclass will offer a step-by-step guide for people to follow from their kitchens, no matter where they are in the UK. Each two to three-minute session will show people how to create an array of decadent desserts, in a bid to encourage community togetherness during a time of social distancing.

In order to take part in these digital co-baking sessions, all people need to do is visit @Thebig_bakes on Facebook or Instagram where they will find  a list of the necessary ingredients needed for their up-coming class. Once people have completed their creations, they can share a photograph with @Thebig_bakes, in order to be in the running for a prize. Each week, the team will choose the winning amateur baker, who will receive vouchers to attend a live session later in the year.

The Big Bakes was founded in 2017 by Eloise Frank and Adam Chaudhri, who found a gap in the market for fun, accessible and affordable baking events, after taking part in a bake-off competition at work.

Thanks to their backgrounds in travel, marketing and events Eloise and Adam launched their live bake-off competitions, which combine socialising, good old-fashioned rivalry, and of course, baking! Together they had run some of the world’s biggest press events, but nothing quite compared to starting their own business.

Since the launch, Eloise and Adam have turned The Big London Bake into the capital’s highest rated event and have won a handful of significant awards, including ‘Best Experience for South London’. The Big Bakes is now hosted in London and Birmingham and is suitable for a range of occasions, from Tinder dates, to corporate away days.

Taking place inside a marquee with individual bake stations, the interactive events are led by a team of professional patisserie chefs and participants are given all the essential ingredients needed to create the ultimate bake. When they re-open, The Big London Bake runs seven days a week, while The Big Birmingham Bake runs every day except Monday and Tuesday. Tickets start from £37.50.
