4 Thoughts I had While Watching Katie Price: Nothing To Hide

Katie Price Nothing to Hide documentary review

I’ve always been a Katie Price supporter. It might seem quite controversial to say at times, but love her or hate her, there’s no disputing the fact that Katie’s career has created a media frenzy from day one, and she’s leveraged the tabloid attention perfectly to achieve the fame she so desperately craved.

But is Katie Price’s new show on Sky actually worth a watch, or have we seen enough of Katie and her alter ego ‘Jordan’ to last a lifetime? Here are four thoughts I had after watching the first two episodes of Katie Price: Nothing to Hide, that might help you decide for yourself.

What is Katie Price: Nothing to Hide?

A Sky Original four-part series from Louis Theroux’s BAFTA-winning Mindhouse (Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere, Lockerbie) and BAFTA and International Emmy-winning director, Paddy Wivell, brings a documentary lens to Katie’s story, combining extraordinary unseen footage with first-time testimony to deliver a revealing portrait of one of Britain’s most enduring celebrity figures. Katie Price: Nothing to Hide will be available on Sky and streaming service NOW this summer.

Is Katie Price the OG Influencer?

The first thing that strikes me about this documentary is how determined Katie has always been to succeed. She knew from a young age that fame was in her future, and stopped at nothing to make that a reality. In her early career, Katie didn’t shy away from media attention; she actively encouraged it.

But there was a business-minded element here that must be applauded, especially when we learn about how she controlled her own media image and the deals struck with paparazzi. These ensured that not only was she in control of which pictures made the headlines, but that she also received a cut of the profits. If you think about it, perhaps Katie really was the OG ‘influencer’.

Brutal honesty from Katie and everyone involved

The documentary opens with Katie explaining to the crew that she’s happy for them to talk to anyone from her life and that she has nothing to hide. There’s a moment in episode one where Katie speaks about her breakup with pop star Dane Bowers. Her full transparency about some of the drastic decisions she made after their split really caught me off guard, and it’s the first time in the documentary that viewers can see she really wasn’t kidding about her no-holds-barred honesty.

Equally, it’s refreshing to see everyone interviewed also being given free rein to speak candidly about their own thoughts and feelings regarding their experiences with Katie. While some other documentaries can feel overly produced or scripted, this feels as though we’re getting genuine insight into Katie’s inner circle.

Famous Faces and Nostalgia

The fact that so many of Katie’s friends, family, and ex-partners have agreed to appear gives the documentary an air of nostalgia. There are also frequent throwbacks to Top of the Pops, Pop Idol, and all of the classic TV shows of the early 2000’s. I enjoyed seeing Gareth Gates back on our screens. The insight into various elements of their relationship was particularly interesting to watch.

As someone who watched the season of I’m A Celeb where Katie and Peter Andre fell in love, it was also fun to relive that period of time through Katie’s eyes during episode two, when this time in her life is touched upon. You can tell that she had genuine feelings for Pete, regardless of how things played out after the jungle.

Mum-Life Moments Keep Things Grounded

There are times when we get to see Katie at what I assume to be her most authentic, and those are when she’s sharing candid moments with her kids. The bond that Katie has with her son Harvey is beautiful to see, although those who have watched her over the years will already know how much care and attention she’s devoted to Harvey’s well-being.

Some of the early moments where we learn more about Harvey’s health issues will tug at any parent’s heartstrings, and Katie (like all young mothers in similar positions) should be applauded for how well she handled this in her early 20’s. However, her decision to bring Harvey into the spotlight at such a young and vulnerable moment will certainly leave viewers’ opinions divided.

Overall, I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen so far and am looking forward to watching the remaining episodes. When it comes to entertainment, there’s one thing for sure. We should still never underestimate the Pricey.

Katie Price: Nothing to Hide is released July 8th on Sky and streaming service NOW.
