Discovering The Christmas Slug & Lettuce Menu!

Slug & Lettuce currently have over 70 bars across the country. Myself and my husband (Andy) recently had the pleasure of visiting one of their newer branches – Bristol Harbourside. Slug & Lettuce have created a series of new food and drinks packages for the festive party season which began 15th November and is running until the 2nd January.

The new walk in menu features a Christmas Burrito (£8.29) and a Christmas Burger (£10.79) both of which come accompanied with chips or fries. If you’re wanting to have a special treat I highly recommend the Festive Sharer (£19.99). The festive drinks list is also extensive with firm favourites such as mulled wine or mulled cider (£3.95), to drinks for the shot lovers with Santa Hat and Mistletoe Mint (£3.50) or for the cocktail connoisseur Candy Cane (£10.25), Jäger Cranberry Crush (£9.25) and Festive Fizz (£9.75) to name a few!

If you are vegan there are varieties available with the set menus and the buffets. Dishes include falafel bites with baba ganoush and crudités and for main, vegetable linguini. Slug & Lettuce also cater for gluten free diets. The festive buffets start with packages starting at The Nibbler from £12.99 per person up to The Crowd Pleaser starting at £18.99 per person. For the festive buffets you need a minimum party of 10 people and you must book and have your booking confirmed a minimum of two weeks before your intended party date. On our recent visit we had the opportunity to test a variety of plates available from the buffet as well as the Festive Sharer.

We started with a cocktail, the Sparkling Chambord Royale. This was my favourite of the two we sampled. It came beautifully presented in a lightly glitter dusted glass containing prosecco, Chambord and further garnished with raspberries and a candy cane. The following cocktail was the Cranberry Crush Jägerpud, this was Andy’s favourite of the two, it had Jägermeister in so I knew he was going to enjoy that one more!

The Festive Sharer was brought to our table, complete with fries, garlic ciabatta, baked Camembert, pigs in blankets, turkey sliders, ham croquettes, fried chicken and two accompanying sauces. I love the concept of this tray of delights! My personal favourite from the Sharer was by far the turkey sliders, a simple idea which is packed with flavour. I’m not usually a fan of turkey meat but this was succulent and was finished off with a sweet cranberry jam. Andy’s favourite from the sharer was a more traditional offering of pigs and blankets.

Next we were greeted with a selection of the buffet plates available from the three packages. I’m not usually a fan of any seafood however I was pleasantly surprised by the crispy panko-crumbed calamari strips. For me this usually wouldn’t gain a second glance. However, I thought I would try it for the first time and I was amazed by how delicious it actually tasted. The halloumi, tomato and olive skewers were flavoursome and in keeping with the tastes of the calamari. I love that the buffet combines traditional with big flavours to delight the palette throughout the meal. There is truly something for everyone. A few of the other dishes you can look forward to are; sausage rolls with a smoky bacon glaze, crispy tempura vegetables, hot mustard rarebit ciabatta strips and ham & pea terrine crostini served with a real ale English chutney. These dishes vary dependant on the package you choose.

Finally Slug & Lettuce also offer two and three course meals starting at £22.99 per person. Starters include: tomato, pesto and bean soup, Scottish smoked salmon, applewood cheese and chive soufflé and ham and pea terrine. For the main course you can choose from; hand carved turkey, vegetable and Brie roulade, 8oz rump steak or fillet of hake.

To finish your meal you can treat yourself to either a Christmas fruit pudding, baked vanilla cheesecake, praline torte or a zesty lemon sorbet. All in all the festive menu at Slug & Lettuce would be a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas with your workmates or the perfect place to go for a delicious bite to eat with the family this winter!
