As the seasons change, it can be hard to stay on track with a comfortable sleeping schedule. Often, a change in temperature can lead to bedrooms becoming hot and stuffy, causing us to overheat in the night. With that in mind, here are four simple tips to help you enjoy a better night’s sleep this spring.

Change your duvet and pillows

One of the first things to consider is the thickness of your duvet. Many people sleep with a duvet that is too thick for the spring season. Generally, the best tog duvet for spring is considered to be around 7.5 to 10.5 tog, but finding the best option for you is something to experiment with. At this time of the year, when the weather is still slightly unpredictable, another good option is to utilise layered blankets. Removable blankets that can be placed over the top of your duvet look great and are cosy. This is perfect if the temperature drops slightly during the night.

Check your mattress

If your mattress is old and uncomfortable, then it could be impacting your quality of sleep. Keep an eye on your mattress’s general wear and tear, and invest in a comfortable mattress topper if you don’t have the time or money to fully replace your bed.

However, if you do want to go all out and replace your mattress, then there are some excellent options for different types of mattresses available. A hybrid mattress is an excellent choice for those who want comfort and luxury. Hybrid mattresses combine multiple layers of both springs and foam, giving you the best of both worlds.

Limit screentime before bed

Sometimes we need to give our brains time to wind down before we are able to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. Whilst it can be tempting to spend a few minutes scrolling through social media or checking those last-minute emails, it’s not always helpful when it comes to calming and relaxing the body. By leaving the phone switched off and enjoying a calming activity like reading or meditation, we may find that our quality of sleep improves.

Improve airflow

Improving airflow in the bedroom may help us feel relaxed and calm. If the temperature is warm enough, try leaving the window open slightly, with just enough space for the air to circulate. You could also consider purchasing a small fan for the bedroom or, if your property suffers from condensation and damp issues like our Victorian property, then a ventilation system may be worth considering. This simple device can be placed in your attic and helps with airflow in your whole home.
