Red Potion The Merchant of Venice Fragrance Review

the merchant of venice

Travelling on a journey that starts from the Northern borders of the African coast, The Merchant of Venice bottles the aromas and scents of the indigenous plants and flowers of these lands for RED POTION. New to the range in the signature Murano Collection bottle, this heady scent captures orange blossom, rosemary, and the caramel-esque notes of the hardy immortelle – “a flower known for its charismatic perfume, its fascinating dry-aroma, rich in sensory layers, sexy, desirable and satisfying aroma,” as Fragrantica describes it.

These fragrances travel the seas from North Africa across the Mediterranean into Venice, following the trade route of La Muda del Trafego, which is the source of inspiration of this particular fragrance, named after the iconic symbols of RED, which permeate the city of Venice.

The red symbolises the fire-coloured sunsets reflected in the ripples of the lagoon, the red velvets of the gondolas, the Venetian flag charged with the Golden Lion of St. Mark’s passant across a red background, the nobility of Venice, the warm natural pigment of red Venetian buildings, and the colour often used in Italian Renaissance paintings.

Ultimately, these notes lead to the connection of The Merchant of Venice with La Serenissima, creating this very special fragrance, which captures the essence of this mysterious and historical place. The city was a melting pot of trades and commerce through the ages, where traders brought their wares for over 200 years, from India, China and the Mediterranean.
