Tesco Finest West Australian Chardonnay

Made by Howard Park, one of Western Australia’s most celebrated wine producers, from carefully cultivated Chardonnay grapes. The result is a dry but rounded wine with green apple notes and hints of melon, pear, vanilla and a refreshingly crisp finish. Pairs with Grilled salmon, creamy fish pie or macaroni cheese. £9.00 from Tesco.

D’arenberg The Witches Berry Chardonnay

To add complexity the majority of the wine is fermented and matured in old French oak for seven months. Witches Berry is a weed that grows in the vineyards. Italian women once put the juice of the berry in their eyes which dilated their pupils, making them appear darker and more beautiful.

Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren vale, South Australia. Today, fourth generation family member Chester makes distinctive wines using traditional and sustainable methods in the vineyard and the winery. Small batches of grapes are gently crushed, chilled, and then basket pressed. £12.50 from Tesco.

Moillard-Thomas Chablis Premier Cru

You don’t always have to look for Chardonnay on the label as this wine, is 100% Chardonnay. Moillard-Thomas is one of the oldest wine merchants in Nuits-Saint-George. And since the 19th century, the Moillard family name has been synonymous with incredible Burgundy wines. They work with a network of quality winegrowers to bring together the finest grapes from premier cru vineyards.

For this Premier Cru Chablis, they ferment the grapes separately – part in barrel, the other in stainless steel. After 12 months of ageing with regular lees stirring for complexity, the wines are then expertly blended.
