My 3 Favourite Luxury Winter Scents | 2020 Edit

I’m a firm believer in the fact that the right fragrance and accessories can provide the wearer with an instant mood lift. Fragrances are one of the first things we notice about people and I don’t know about you, but I even tend to associate certain scents with certain friends and family members. I don’t spend my money on designer fashion items often, but I do like to treat myself to statement accessories and luxury scents. After all…. The devil is in the details, as they say.

My 3 Favourite Luxury Winter Scents | 2020 Edit

I love embracing specific scents for different seasons. I have my summer fragrances, autumn and winter scents and those good old faithful’s that serve me well all year round. The top 3 luxury winter scents that I’m currently reaching for on a regular basis are below.

My Burberry Black

My Burberry Black is my idea of perfection in a bottle. There is something darker, deeper and more sensual about this perfume compared to its predecessor. There’s a stormy feel to it, like the smell that you get in the air after an almighty rainstorm. Given that Petrichor is one of my all time favourite smells, it’s hardly surprising that I’ve fallen head over heels with the new My Burberry Black fragrance.

The fragrance fuses the scent of sun-drenched jasmine flower and peach nectar with a touch of rose. This signature rose note at the heart of My Burberry is given a sweet and inviting candied twist, while rich amber patchouli rounds off the scent for a deep and captivating finish.

This clever scent somehow manages to be warm, sensual and captivating whilst having an ever so slightly masculine finish. This works so well and is a pleasant alternative to the heavy, sometimes sickly sweet winter fragrances that are released during the winter months.

I would happily wear My Burberry Black perfume all year round though and there’s no doubt that it has now become a firm favourite in my luxury fragrance collection. My Burberry scents are available in Selfridges online here. (ad)

Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Amyris Extrait de Parfum

Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrances are the epitome of luxury. I believe that I am correct in saying that perfumer Francis Kurkdjian has worked on many of my favourite scents, including the My Burberry collection as mentioned above. Which would explain why I love anything he creates!

Francis Kurkdjian

Maison Francis Kurkdjian Amyris Extrait de Parfum is one of the most truly beautiful, captivating scents you will ever find. Its head is in Jamaica, and its heart in Florence. The Amyris extrait de parfum is inspired by the Parisian lifestyle and the latest concoction from Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Its centre revolves around Amyris, a tree born under the Jamaican sun and Iris, the subtest of Florentine flowers. Together, they instantly kindle a flame, a flame that never dies. A floral, woody and luminous fragrance.

This is a scent to truly treasure. The ultimate compliment receiver (whenever I wear this I’m asked what fragrance I’m wearing, without fail) its long lasting scent makes the perfect statement without being overpowering. Perfect for special occasions, Christmas parties or winter wear. Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrances are available online here (ad)

The Merchant of Venice Andalusian Soul

Luxury fragrance house The Merchant of Venice introduced me to their scent Andalusian Soul upon release and I wear it every winter. The fragrance is inspired by the mude, the ancient maritime trade routes of the Venetian merchants, which connected Venice to the fascinating cities of the East, enabling the exchange of raw materials, customs, and traditions.

Andalusian Soul is an audacious fragrance characterised by refined and fresh acacia, elegant and sensual vanilla, and intense amber, further enriched by touches of cistus and rum. The sublime mix of precious raw materials is made even more fascinating by balsamic accords and aromatic sage.

valentine's day gift guide

For me, this sweet vanilla scent is like receiving a warm hug from a familiar friend on the coldest of winter days.

The ambience expressed by this extremely feminine fragrance evokes the warmth and mystery of the sunny lands of its origin. The head notes are reminiscent of the beverages made in ancient times in Malaga, much sought-after in the courts of Europe. The elegant bottle, in shades of yellow and orange, is also reminiscent of the warm atmosphere of Morocco and Southern Spain. RRP £80 (50ml) Available at Harvey Nichols (ad)
