DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House, is one of the South West’s finest four-star, contemporary boutique hotel and spas. An enchanting venue, set within rolling English countryside, makes it the ideal backdrop for a short break this summer or at any time of year in our opinion!
Located less than 30 minutes from Bristol city centre, DoubleTree by Hilton, Cadbury House, is just minutes from both junction 20 and 21 of the M5 motorway. Yatton Train Station is just down the road providing mainline links to Temple Meads in Bristol and London with Bristol Airport only 15 minutes drive away. We recently took a trip to the hotel ourselves as part of our quest to bring you a comprehensive list of the best places to take a short break this year, and you can trust us when we say that you most definitely won’t be disappointed!
Upon first arrival, check in was quick and easy. The staff were friendly, cheerful and incredibly helpful. The instructions to our room were clear and concise and the delicious free cookie on arrival that Double Tree by Hilton have become so well known for, just about sealed the deal for us there and then. Yummy!
Our room was light, fresh and clean with a modern look and feel. Guests are given the handy option of a morning paper and a wakeup call. There is free wifi and internet can also be accessed via the TV. Movies are also available on demand in the room for £14.95. The room was well stocked with tea, coffee and all of the essentials and we couldn’t think of anything else that we would possibly need for our relaxing stay!
We decided to kick things off with a little spa visit. Things here were tranquil, relaxing and every attention to detail had clearly been paid to the cleanliness and hygiene of all areas. The staff were kind enough to show us around the spa so that we could take some pictures without looking like creepy weirdos photographing people in their swimsuits! We are thinking about coming back to the spa for another visit as we were quite low on time and didn’t get to experience everything there was on offer. Everything that we did manage to see was completely luxurious and heavenly though and the variety of treatments on offer are just perfect for a relaxing weekend away.
We spent some time relaxing and making the most of the early evening sun with a few glasses of Pimm’s on the new decking area of the hotel bar, before heading off to our meal at the Marco Pierre White restaurant. We couldn’t wait to see what else could possibly be in store!
The Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill was a real treat. The décor is stunning and makes a really great first impression and we were shown to a delightful little booth table which was tucked away in the corner in a lovely quiet spot. This was perfect for a romantic, intimate meal.
As you can see from the pictures above, the food looked amazing! Let me tell you, the flavours were also to die for. I don’t really know where to start, there was so much gorgeous food on display throughout the evening. We enjoyed sirloin steak and a burger between us and both came with a side of the most delicious home style crispy chips I have ever tasted! The burger was tasty and moist and the steak was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of pink. Presentation was wonderfully detailed and we loved the rustic look and feel of the wooden serving boards and metal serving pots for side dishes.
The meal ended with the most decadent, delicious desert platter you could ever wish for. Priced at just £12.50 you’ll do a double take at the amount of sweet treats that are positioned upon this serving block! The rice pudding was creamy and full of flavour, the strawberries tasted as though they had just been picked fresh from the garden and the brownies and cakes were warm, gooey and so comforting.
We left our meal very full, but deliriously happy! It is also worth noting that the staff in the restaurant are welcoming, kind and helpful. We couldn’t have asked for more.
After an evening stroll and a comfortable nights sleep we left the hotel the following day with a heavy heart to be returning to the real world and fond memories of our short break.
We would definitely return again and recommend Double Tree by Hilton Cadbury House hotel as one of the south west’s true hidden gems that is well worth a visit. Now, how soon can we find an excuse to go back?!
