Winter Wardrobe Essentials

winter

There are so many gorgeous fashion trends this winter, from the wild animal prints that have been everywhere to the slouchy boots seen at the shows, that it’s easy to forget the fashion staples.  These are the items that stand the test of time and are perfect year after year. If you’re wondering where to begin with your wardrobe this season, start with the essentials.

The Chunky Knit – Whether you opt for full cable knit or soft cashmere, you can’t go far wrong with a sweater. If you’re at work, team the soft cashmere with tailored trousers and layer over a light cotton shirt. Add some leopard print flats to nod to the current trend. For the ultimate weekend attire, pair the cable knit with skinny jeans and boots and head to the fireside in the local pub.

The Coat – With so many styles of coat to choose from, it can be tricky to know where to begin. For one that has timeless style, however, opt for a midi or all-out maxi. These lengths are flattering and warming and look good with jeans during the day and thrown over a dress during party season. To nod to the trend, tweed jackets have been seen on the catwalks for winter 2018, but if you’re seeking a safe option that can be worn again, grey and black is still the way to go.

The Boots – Which camp do you fall into? Are you a knee-high fan or an ankle aficionado? Whichever boot you prefer, both will always be in fashion during the winter months. Boots are the wonderful combination of practical and pretty. You can select some shiny patent leather ankle-skimming boots or choose the tan suede knee boots that look good tucked into jeans and teamed with skirts. The choice is yours.

The Oversized Cardigan – Somewhere between a coat and cardigan, the coatigan is a cosy, yet sleek alternative to typical outerwear. It’s lightweight and elegant enough to be worn around the office and casual enough to be worn to the bar for post-work drinks. Find a tailored one that suits your shape and you’ll wear it forever.

The Bag – Tiny bags are great for a night out, but larger ones will always have our heart. From soft slouchy leather ones that can be slung over the shoulder to cool rucksacks that have a touch of the nineties about them. Pop a cute purse in, like the adorable collection by Radley, and you’re all set for the season ahead.

What fashion items do you return to every year? Can you not be without your boots or are you bereft without your chunky coat?
