What to bring, do before and how to get to this year’s hotly anticipated series of outdoor summer concerts at Kenwood House.
WHAT TO BRING:
For the classical concerts – Choral Greats, Singin’ in the Rain, Opera Al Fresco, and An Evening of Gershwin – picnics are permitted, so do bring a rug, some recyclable cutlery and a bottle or two of vino – we recommend Knotted Vines www.nakedwines.com/wines but do bring some plastic recyclable glasses. . It will probably be a warm evening, so stock up on water: the popular Fiji water have launched special drinking straws for ladies wearing lipstick – perfect for your Live By The Lake picnic basket! Last but not least, how about some yummy Carluccio ladybird chocs?
WHAT TO DO BEFORE:
The beautiful area of Hampstead has lots to offer during the day, the most popular being the green, scenic Hampstead Heath, great for a pre Live By The Lake picnic or a refreshing cooling down dip in the famous bathing ponds. Another local favourite is the Spaniards Inn on Spaniards Road, which is one of London’s oldest pubs; it has a beautiful garden, perfect for a delicious Pimm’s and lemonade! Search #cultureontheheath The Spaniards Inn, Hampsteadon twitter, to see some of our other recommendations.
HOW TO GET THERE:
There is very little public parking available at Kenwood. The nearest underground stations are Archway and Golders Green, both on the Northern Line. Or if you choose to arrive and depart by taxi, there are clearly marked drop off and pick up points for taxis onsite. The number 210 bus runs between Finsbury Park and Golders Green and stops at the East Lodge entrance to Kenwood House. Although cycling is not allowed within the Kenwood estate, secure bike park racks are available via the West Lodge entrance – but of course, don’t drink and ride! 2013 marks the welcome return of the English Heritage concert season. Produced by the young dynamic agency, Rouge Events, Live By The Lake’s outstanding lineup of world class music is scheduled over six days – August 23rd-25th and August 30th-September 1st; each show promises to attract up to 10,000 music and film lovers to enjoy the music and share a picnic with friends and family in more than 100 acres of Kenwood House’s beautifully landscaped gardens.
Boasting the perfect mix of pop, rock, soul, classical, musical theatre and film, LIVE BY THE LAKE promises something special for every music lover in the land. Tickets are now on sale at www.kenwood.seetickets.com and there are a limited number of discounts for residents in many of London’s northwest postal districts.
Ticket holders will be able to choose a variety of reasonably priced tickets for each concert and to decide whether or not to bring their own picnic and all-weather paraphernalia! For those who want to rock up unhampered, the best of Carluccio’s Italian picnics can be ordered in advance and picked up on the day of each orchestral concert. (NB: Suede and Keane concerts will be standing room only, so picnics and chairs should be left at home and a range of drinks and delicious food will be available from the on-site concession stands).
