If you are looking for a selection of luxurious and sophisticated drinks to add a touch of class to your next garden party or BBQ this summer then we’ve got you covered. This month we’ve been on a mission to track down three of the most mouth-watering and stylish summer drinks that would be perfect for outdoors entertaining and events.
Thatchers Family Reserve – Selecting the first gentle pressing of its beautiful Katy apples to create the finest and most delicate juice, Thatchers has created an 11% abv sparkling apple wine. Thatchers Family Reserve rediscovers the recipe for “champagne cider” originally crafted by Thatchers founder, William Thatcher in the early 1900s. Today, Thatchers has taken William’s sparkling apple wine recipe to create this delicate, elegant fizz, that is just perfect for special occasions and celebrations.
With light golden hues, gentle fine bubbles, and a great combination of intensity, delicacy and length, Thatchers Family Reserve is a fantastic alternative to sparkling wine and champagne for those who love something special. With Family Reserve, Thatchers is recognising its heritage and tradition, and translating it into this classic cuvée using today’s knowledge and skills.
Martin Thatcher, fourth generation cidermaker says, “This is a very special sparkling wine, not just because the recipe originated with my Great Grandfather, but because we have taken great care and attention to produce a very fine English apple wine. Using the first pressing to extract the finest juice is a skill that our cidermakers have put to great use with Family Reserve.”
Thatchers, based at Myrtle Farm in Somerset, has a reputation for expertly using its apples to create ciders with character and quality, and is now adding its first apple wine to the family. The Katy apple is a fine dessert fruit, a bright red apple that is a cross between the Worcester Pearmain and James Grieve, that provides Thatchers with the perfect balance between acidity and sweetness. Thatchers Family Reserve is available in 750ml wired cork bottles, RRP £9.99 and it is gluten-free and suitable for coeliac, vegetarian and vegan. For more information visit: www.thatcherscider.co.uk
Ombra Di Pantera, Prosecco Superiore Brut Millesimato DOCG – An exclusively DOCG Prosecco, Ombra Di Pantera, has launched in the UK. The Prosecco serve of choice this season, Ombra Di Pantera is crafted with the finest Glera grapes from a delicately cultivated vineyard in San Pietro Di Feletto, which lies just outside Conegliano in the province of Treviso.
DOCG is the highest classification for Italian wines, denoting controlled production methods and guaranteed wine quality. Within the Prosecco-producing region of northeast Italy, only vineyards between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene are afforded DOCG status, where winemaking methods have been refined over a thousand years and the vertiginous hills require harvesting by hand. Francesco Vanoli, Director, Ombra Di Pantera, commented:
“We consume 38 million bottles a year in the UK, but only now are we becoming aware of the different qualities of Prosecco available and, most importantly, the system of grading and classification which denotes superior and super-premium Prosecco – namely the difference between DOC and DOCG. Prosecco is adored year-round and sometimes it’s far too easy to pick up the first bottle off the shelf without giving any thought to the quality. We have set out to create a Prosecco of exceptional quality, for genuine connoisseurs of Italian wine.”
Ombra Di Pantera, Prosecco Superiore Brut Millesimato DOCG is available in some of London’s most exclusive establishments, including, Novikov, Caviar House & Prunier and The Blue Marlin Group, retailing for £24.99 per bottle online, at: www.ombradipantera.com and has been featured at prestigious events from Huntsman on Savile Row to Mister E’s breakthrough show at Art Basel in Miami.
Raisthorpe Manor Distilled Dry Yorkshire Gin – Raisthorpe Manor’s Distilled Dry Yorkshire Gin is distilled in the traditional way by Raisthorpe’s Master Distillers, using the magical water from the Gypsey Race, the ancient chalk stream running beneath the Yorkshire Wolds next to the Manor, thought to have mythical properties and, according to folklore, bring good luck to those who drink from it. The Distilled Dry Yorkshire Gin is infused with fresh botanicals and local watercress, thought to have been farmed around the Gypsey Race floodplains around 100 years ago. With the right balance of juniper and secret botanicals, it tickles the taste buds, creating a uniquely mystical taste.
Raisthorpe Manor began in 2008 with an ancestor’s ancient recipe for Raspberry Gin. Nine years later, Raisthorpe Manor creates a range of award winning spirits and liqueurs, created using the finest fruits and local ingredients to create distinct, natural flavours.
