Seven Great Experiences to Include on Your Florence Itinerary

A visit to the beautiful Italian city of Florence is on a lot of people’s to-do list. It is a wonderful place that has a reputation for really looking after its visitors. Despite the fact that it is a relatively small city, as you will see, there is plenty for you to do there. Here is my roundup of some of the best experiences the city has to offer.

Enjoy an opera performance – The first opera was created in Florence. In the late 1500s, both the Florentine Camerata performers and Jacopo Corsi began to set their dramas to music. Florence really is the birthplace of opera. So, unsurprisingly, there are plenty of places for you to enjoy this performing art. You can find performances and buy tickets for them here.

Enjoy a treasure trove of Renaissance art at The Uffizi – Florence has a very long and rich cultural history. The city is home to many truly spectacular works of art, especially Renaissance art. If you love that era you really cannot leave without visiting The Uffizi. Amongst its treasures are Botticelli’s ‘Birth of Venus’, Fra Angelico’s Coronation of the Virgin and Parmigianino’s ‘Madonna with the Long Neck’.

Climb the stairs to the top of II Duomo di Firenze – If you want a panoramic view of Florence the Dome of the Firenze is the place to head to. The views are spectacular, but with 463 steps to climb you need to be fit to be able to enjoy them.

A food lover’s heaven – If you are a bit of a foodie, head to the Mercato Centrale. There you can enjoy two floors of food stalls. You are bound to leave this market with your arms full of delicious local produce and delicacies. Be sure to stop for breakfast or a coffee during your visit to this market. The prices are not inflated and the quality is excellent. If you click here you will be taken to a page that tells you where to enjoy the best food in this vast place.

Visit one of the city’s best cafes – While we are on the subject of food I must mention Caffe Gilli. This café has been in business since 1733. Since then, the décor and layout have barely changed, so you are sure to enjoy the ambiance as well as the coffee.

Treat yourself to a Michelin-starred meal – If fine-dining is something you enjoy, you really should dine at Enoteca Pinchiorri. This three-star Michelin restaurant is one of only 6 in Italy. The restaurant serves many Tuscan favourites. So, enjoying a meal there is a great way to acquaint yourself with the local food culture.

Take a dip in the city’s outdoor pool complex – Visiting Florence’s municipal pool is an easy way to cool off. There is a kid’s pool, a huge 50-meter long general pool as well as one for diving.
The above is just a flavour of the wonderful things you can do in Florence. This stunning city is one that you are bound to be tempted back to.
