From November, the Hotel will also be hosting its legendary Agatha Christie inspired murder mystery weekends for those guests seeking a more authentic experience, with this autumn marking the release of the latest movie to be based on one of the famous author’s crime thrillers.

Following its refurbishment last year, the Hotel plans to further expand and enrich its guest services and facilities, adding further amenities and range of possible experiences, including enhancing the range of spa services and activities available.

The 1930’s ‘Ritz of the West’ has attracted guests from all over the world owing to its rich cultural history, with notable visitors and guests including Winston Churchill, Noel Coward and Agatha Christie and more recently Hollywood stars and high-profile figures from business, the arts and the media.

Aside from the luxurious suites and well-appointed bedrooms, guests seeking a more secluded experience can opt for Agatha’s Beach House, nestled in the island’s rock face right on the sea, where the author is said to have written two novels, including one of her most popular, Evil Under the Sun. This luxury accommodation has its own private outdoor hot tub and panoramic views of the Jurassic coast.

To ensure the safety of guests, visitors and staff, the Hotel is implementing strict health and safety procedures that will minimise risk of contamination without compromising the hotel’s ability to still deliver the highest standards of service and experience. The Hotel now has a bookings-only policy, including pre-arrival questionnaires and provides social distancing guidance throughout the hotel and the island.

The hotel’s three food and beverage outlets have also undergone extensive changes to comply with new health and safety standards and guest can expect to see some exciting innovations. Across The Grand Ballroom and the seafood restaurant, The Nettlefold, dining hours will be extended to ensure that everyone can enjoy a luxury dining experience while social distancing is enforced.

The Burgh Island breakfast buffet has now been suspended and an a la carte menu will be available for all guests. Meanwhile, the island’s pub, The Pilchard Inn, will be offering a takeaway service and two dinner sittings for guests and visitors to the island.

The major investment in health and safety is in addition to the refurbishment of staff accommodation. As well as allowing staff to stay on the island and in the hotel during lockdown, management have also converted garages into a staff leisure area. There are also plans to build eco-lodges on the island that provide sustainable homes for the Island’s dedicated team.

Giles Fuchs, owner of Burgh Island Hotel, said:

“I’m delighted to be able to announce that Burgh Island Hotel will be opening on July 7th. Given its location the Hotel is an ideal spot for a staycation, which is how most people will enjoy their holidays this year. Guests will be able to enjoy excellent dining with food sourced locally and sustainably, luxury spa services, as well as a full range of outdoor activities. With safety an absolute priority, we have implemented health and safety measures across the hotel and the grounds, to ensure the wellbeing of both our staff and guests, without compromising the unique, luxury experience the Hotel provides.”
